Bird Key Yacht Club (BKYC)
is
considered one of
the outstanding yacht
Clubs on
Florida's West Coast, and its
story is closely linked with the history of Sarasota.
The Bird Key Yacht Club was organized for the purpose of
promoting yachting and social enjoyment.
While there are many wonderful clubs in
Sarasota, BKYC has some very special features in a package that
no other Club can equal.
A friendly, beautifully
located, private club:
When you join Bird Key
Yacht Club you become part of a small, friendly,
family-oriented club committed to providing high value
to its members. The Club prides itself on having
a special atmosphere that fosters the development of new
friendships and the pleasure of spending time with other
members who share common interests.
Superb dining with the
best view in Sarasota:
Our view of Sarasota is
fantastic and the menu, developed by Chef Tom Thompson,
offers a full range of culinary delights. Sit outside on
the Aft Deck, or in the Sun Deck, and enjoy casual fare
while you watch the boats enter and leave the Gulf
through New Pass…. or you can dress up a bit and select
from the full dining room menu, and still enjoy
the City skyline. The view, food and friendships will
bring you back again and again.
A full agenda of Social
Events:
Social activities with good friends are one of the
highlights of membership. The Club has regularly
scheduled parties and a wide range of theme events;
there’s a weekly boaters luncheon; ladies meet monthly
for a Sea Gals Luncheon and fashion shows draw both
ladies and gents; the Art Committee sponsors a monthly
show of members art work, and bridge and Mah Jong
aficionados get together regularly for play and
conversation.
Stay fit and healthy:
The Club has
three Har-Tru clay tennis courts which are regularly
used for friendly games, round robins and
tournaments…and our cardiac tennis program is getting
great reviews. Enjoy a brisk work out in our fully
equipped fitness center and adjacent swimming pool. In
addition, Bird Key Yacht Club has an alliance with
Laurel Oak Country Club where our members may play golf
as well as utilize the other LOCC facilities.
Active boating and
sailing programs:
The marina at Bird Key
Yacht Club is right off the ICW and we have a robust
boating program. Every month our boaters organize
cruises to one of the many interesting destinations in
Florida. These short cruises are frequently extended, by
some, into longer trips and bigger adventures. Also,
every year Santa arrives by boat to the delight of the
children and adults. In short, the Club is a great place
to team up with friendly boaters and enjoy time on the
water.
Tennis, workouts,
boating, golf and swimming aren’t your cup of tea?
Well, we have groups of members who bicycle together,
bowl, enjoy fiber arts, kayak, fish, line dance, attend
book reviews, explore computers and photography, shoot
skeet and trap….and if we don’t have an existing group
that shares your particular passion, we expect it won’t
take very long to form one.

Bird Key Yacht Club Profile
Members come not only from the entire Sarasota
area, but also from all over the United States, Canada, Great Britain,
France, Germany, Australia and many other countries.
Their work and areas of expertise range from the
professions—medical and legal—to business, law enforcement, the social
services, the military, communications and the arts.
Many members are first rate artists,
photographers, musicians, singers and authors.
At the Club this eclectic group of friends and
neighbors—many newcomers to Sarasota—has the opportunity to share their
passions for boating, tennis, bridge, fine dining and other wholesome
fun.
Joining Bird Key Yacht Club gives you the
opportunity to participate in the numerous activities available here; it
also allows you to experience the facilities of other clubs.
In Sarasota, our members may visit Sarasota Yacht Club and the Field
Club on Tuesdays when our Club is closed, or any day of the week by
boat. The University Club is also open to members on Tuesdays when our
Club is closed.
Bird Key Yacht Club was one of the original
thirteen members of the Florida Council of Yacht Clubs (FCYC). Today
more than thirty clubs on both coasts, the Florida Keys and the Florida
Panhandle are members of FCYC. Bird Key members may visit any other
member club, have a berth with the first night's dockage free, and have
all charges for any club activities billed through Bird Key Yacht Club.
Members may visit FCYC clubs either by boat or car.
